THE VISION of OCALS Learning Services is to promote and foster literacy in Orleans County and contiguous areas by utilizing trained volunteers. These services will be available free of charge to all those in need regardless of gender, religious affiliation or race.
OCALS Learning Services was founded in 2006 due to the escalating literacy rates in Orleans County and concerns over lack of services. OCALS is a not-for-profit organization which exists to improve the reading, writing, math and communication skills of adults in Orleans County, and to improve/teach conversational English speaking skills to those who are limited English proficient. By learning skills that help them communicate more effectively, our students become more successful and fulfilled in all aspects of life. We recruit, train, supervise and support volunteer tutors using the professional teaching techniques approved by ProLiteracy.
