Don is retired now but held the position of Assistant Manager of Application Engineers for Graham Manufacturing for over 40 years. He was on the Board of Genesee Mental Health for 12 years. Don has always been interested in and involved with literacy. When his wife, Rose, was Director of Genesee Literacy Volunteers (1983-1989) he worked quietly behind the scenes assisting with special events. He has attended Literacy Volunteers of America conferences with her for 15 years, acquiring knowledge in the fields of personnel policies, finance and fundraising. He played a major role in the development of budgets for Literacy Volunteers of Genesee County, Literacy Volunteers of America-Orleans County, Inc, and currently OCALS. He has assisted in the development of OCALS in an administrative capacity, and has been the Treasurer of our Board since 2007. Don is dedicated to making OCALS a stable and successful literacy program for those in need in Orleans County.

Don is a graduate of the University of Buffalo where he received his BA and MS degrees. He served until retirement as the Executive Director of the Arc of Orleans County for 17 years. His career spanned over 40 years in the Not For Profit arena in clinical, supervisory, and management positions. Don also served in the US Army Reserves for 26 years, and retired as a Colonel in 1993. His community service has included terms on the boards of the Medina Lions Club, the Orleans YMCA, and other local organizations. He enjoys reading and golf. He and his wife Karen have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
